The Mission
What does it mean to Thrive with Mathematics? What is needed to allow ourselves and our students to thrive? I have been a teacher for over thirty years and have had the good fortune to be involved in the wider mathematics education scene for almost as long, firstly learning from others and then providing help and support to others. This website is another way that I hope will continue that work.
The Method
Musings
Here I pose questions that I consider worth thinking about and invite responses from you on the same. We may not solve all of the world’s problems but we have a place to share what we think they are.
Recommended Reading
Teaching is as much about story telling as it is about subject matter. As teachers we need to know more than we pass on. Also, to teach is to model learning and impart the joy of it. The Reading page is a collection of books and articles I have collected over the years that have helped me to grow and learn. May they help you do the same.
Free Resources
Year nine last period on a Friday in the middle of winter. Teachers are always looking for resources. Here is a collection of materials and links along with tips on how to get the most from them.
Toolkit
Applying mathematics requires much more than a blackboard and chalk. In fact, the choice of equipment can be as important for successful learning as the content itself. From rulers to rubber chickens and dice to dynamic geometry, you will find here a storeroom of materials and manipulatives to help enhance learning.
Conversations
This site is not just about what I know and passing it on to you. Some of the most valuable professional learning I have received over the years has been from conversations. This section of the site is a place to have and share such opportunities. Written transcripts, audio and video recordings in bite sized chunks with teachers, researchers and practitioners of mathematics from all walks of life can be found here.
